PRENATAL EXERCISE GUIDELINES
For a healthy pregnancy, ACOG* recommends a minimum of
30 minutes of exercise on most, if not all, days of the week.

Are you meeting that goal?
*The American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists

Exercise in pregnancy helps to reduce backache, constipation, bloating, and swelling, increase your energy, improve your mood, promote muscle tone, strength, and endurance, improve circulation and digestion, and help you sleep better. But it's not just about feeling good--research shows that regular exercise during pregnancy may also help to prevent complications during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes, and can increase your calcium absorption and healthy blood flow to your baby.

And now we know that the benefits are not just limited to pregnancy. Overall, women who maintain a regular program of exercise during pregnancy enjoy increased comfort in labor, shorter labors, and a reduced need for medical interventions (such as forceps and vacuum delivery). And staying active in pregnancy pays you dividends postpartum as well--speeding your recovery, reducing postpartum depression, and making it easier to get back in shape after your baby is born.

A consistent prenatal exercise program is essential to staying low risk and growing your healthiest baby.
At Baby Moon we make it easier than ever to meet this recommendation, with prenatal offerings nearly every day of the week. Because our classes are designed specifically as a preparation for birth, our mamas report that our program helped them more than anything else they did to prepare for labor and a positive birth experience. Commit to your healthy pregnancy now--it is never too late to start with a safe and effective program designed to meet your needs during the childbearing year.

We recommend 2-3 classes per week during pregnancy. You will still need to round out your week with another 3-4 days of walking, swimming, or other safe exercise options for pregnancy. If you are not engaging in activities outside of the studio much, bump up your schedule to 3-4 classes per week and add 2-3 days of walking to your schedule. We offer a complete range of classes from gentle and restorative to strength building workouts. Both pieces are important for balance and stress relief, and both pieces count towards this ACOG guideline. Do this for your baby and for yourself--these 9 months determine so much about the rest of your life!

PRENATAL YOGA

Feel Better.
Prenatal Yoga helps to align the body to carry your baby most comfortably, preventing or relieving many common discomforts of pregnancy including backache, water retention, fatigue, and sciatic pain. Yoga also helps to stabilize the emotions, relieve stress, and integrate changes in the body. You will leave class feeling better than when you came in.

Be Stronger.
Prenatal Yoga uses stretching and strength-building poses to tone muscles without straining them, improve flexibility, and promote healthy blood flow, keeping your body active and strong as it changes to carry your growing baby. Healthy muscles stretch more easily, and are less likely to ache, tear, or cause injury. This includes birthing muscles. Need I say more?

Prepare for Birth.
Yoga builds strength and confidence in the body and stimulates the relaxation response, releasing fear, tension, and stress that can be a barrier in childbirth. Through yoga practice we develop body and breath awareness, focus, and concentration, learning to relax quickly and completely and practicing softening around the sensations of opening up. These are the skills that will help you most as you move through your labor.

PRENATAL FUSION: Yoga with a twist!
Pregnant mamas, take pause.
Exercise is more important during pregnancy than at any other time. But this is no time for crunches, twists, and double leg lifts. Unsafe ab work during pregnancy injures your core muscles. But that doesn't mean you have to forget about them completely, or stop working out.

Our Prenatal Fusion class is a specialty mat class combining elements of yoga, pilates, and prenatal fitness, and is safe and modified for all stages of pregnancy. This blended class will have a faster pace than our Prenatal Yoga classes, and will include breathing, stretching, modified and safe strengthening postures, and core work to strengthen and tone belly, pelvis muscles, low back, and hip stabilizer muscles in particular. Focusing on the stability of the spine and pelvis, Prenatal Fusion may be just what you need to ease discomfort and protect those loose pregnancy joints.

We adapt to meet your needs.
During pregnancy and birth preparation, we recommend allowing the body to open up and release, rather than focus too much on tightening up and closing. Our Prenatal Fusion class is adapted to meet this need and, when paired with our Prenatal Yoga, is the perfect blend for mamas everywhere! This class will help to ease or prevent pregnancy-related discomfort, boost your energy, help you sleep better, prepare your body and mind for childbirth, reduce stress, and improve your mood. A good prenatal exercise program may also help to ease labor and shorten the time it takes to delivery your baby. After birth, you will continue to enjoy the benefits of your prenatal exercise with a quicker, easier recovery. Moms who exercise regularly during pregnancy also decrease their risk of Postpartum Depression (the most common complication of childbirth). A minimum of 30 minutes of exercise on most, if not all, days is recommended.

Get in touch with your inner goddess.
Dance your way to a happier and healthier pregnancy, an easier birth, and a more content baby! Dancing for Birth incorporates dance elements from belly dance, African dance, Latin dance, and Carribean dance. It's a feel good workout that can be both challenging and relaxing, and no experience is necessary.

You'll also learn valuable childbirth preparation skills and natural pain coping techniques that will build your confidence in your own birthing abilities. PRENATAL & PARTNER YOGA WORKSHOP
Get your partner in the mix.
We know that pregnancy is hard work for mamas. But let's not forget about our partners--providing support through pregnancy and birth is hard work, too. Partners need to stretch, strengthen, and learn how to best support you during this transitional time as you grow your family together.

In this Prenatal Yoga Workshop for Moms and Partners, you'll enjoy time together before baby arrives. We'll do some of our favorite prenatal yoga postures, learn some partner yoga poses, and breathe. A great opportunity to share yoga with your partner, and take it to a whole new level! No previous yoga experience is needed.

PRENATAL RESTORATIVE YOGA WORKSHOP
exclusively at baby moon!
Stress is normal.
It's true. We can't stress too much about having stress in our lives during pregnancy. It's a part of life. But learning how to let it go is vastly important to baby's lifelong health, happiness, and adaptability (and yours), and is integral to a healthy pregnancy. New research shows that while some prenatal stress may even be good for baby, excessive or continued stress is strongly correlated with prematurity and a decreased ability for baby to cope well with stress throughout his or her lifetime.

Finding balance.
These first 9 months are shaping your baby's response to life. What would you like to teach him now? Taking time out from your busy schedule to show your baby (and yourself) the sweet side of life is time well spent. Relax deeply, release stress and tension from the body, and renew your vitality in this gentle prenatal restorative yoga workshop.

Bye-bye adrenaline, hello endorphins.
When we are experiencing stress, adrenaline is released and the body closes up. Muscles tighten. Blood vessels shrink. The body sends energy to only the most essential, life-preserving functions, reserving resources to respond to the perceived threat--to fight or flee. In this heightened state of being, less oxygen and blood flow is carried to the baby, and less is carried through your body. This response serves us well in a crisis, but it's no way to live day in and day out.

Restorative Yoga moves us back into a natural state of being, sending a message to the body and the baby that we are safe and secure. The body responds by stemming the flow of adrenaline and increasing the flow of endorphins--the feel good hormones. In this safe space, the body allows itself to open up--releasing tight muscles, and increasing oxygen and blood flow through the body and to your baby. All of our available energy is now directed into the "non-essential" functions of healing the body, balancing all the systems in the body, and growing a healthy baby. The flood of endorphins bring a sense of calm and well-being that is carried all the way to your baby. If you are already feeling baby move, you may notice increased movement during or after this workshop, as she feels safe enough to explores her world freely. Many of our moms feel baby move for the first time during this type of deep relaxation.

Restorative Yoga creates a profound release in a short amount of time. Mama will be nurtured and supported with plenty of yoga props (blankets, bolsters, and blocks) as we move through slow and gentle restorative yoga asanas that will help to support the body through a deep and gentle release. We'll help you relax body, baby, and mind, and you'll leave feeling "less pregnant" and much happier! Gentle and suitable for all mamas-to-be, regardless of fitness level, previous yoga experience, or stage of pregnancy. All mamas and unborn babies benefit, from conception to 40 weeks of pregnancy and beyond. This restorative workshop is one of your pregnancy must--haves!
